Unsuccessful Crash #1: Doug Benson
@ZackTeibloom It was bound to happen sooner or later. I just didn’t see it going down like this. @Chrisinaustin insisted on going to see @DougBenson a year after we’d seen him do a quick set at Velveeta Room last SXSW. I happily obliged. We had a couple sandwiches, a PBR and played an epic overtime game of NFL Blitz on N64 and headed to Cap City. I’ll tell you this right now. Comedy clubs are not at all conducive to crashing. What makes crashing easy is that for most venues, once you’re in, you’re in. You get past a line or two of security and there’s no looking back. But like Alamo Drafthouse, Cap City checks your tickets once you’re seated, and if you’re not on your game, you’re screwed. I guess you could say, I was gonna crash Doug Benson, but then I … got denied. Read the rest of this entry »
How Festival Line-up Announcements Should Be
@ZackTeibloom Yesterday’s Bonnaroo announcement was a nightmare. Even if you don’t run a music blog. First they put it in the hands of the artist, so you had to have a dozen tabs open to see when Dave Matthews was going to put up a video or if @wearephoenix would tweet about it. It was [...]
Harmonies For Haiti
@AndyShore Haiti has left the headlines, but there is still a ton of work to be done there. Harmonies For Haiti reminded us of that, bringing 17 bands together to raise money for the Red Cross. Hosted by Jonas’ Chelsea Staub, the event saw many of Hollywood’s young stars onstage and in attendance. I stood [...]
The Jack White Interview
@ZackTeibloom That Third Man Record club membership finally paid off. In a big way. Jack White jumped on the video chat to hype the new singles from his label, Third Man Records. As he put it, “This is a paid commercial announcement from the president of Third Man Records to his favorite people, on The [...]
American Idol Top 8 Girls Compete
@AndyShore I think it’s about time someone stepped up and separated themselves from the pack. Lee Dewyze started to do that last week, but it still wasn’t a performance I’ll remember forever. I don’t even remember what song he sang. Lilly Allen is my favorite from the girls. She’s the most unique Idol contestant (with [...]
Temper Trap Contest winner
@ZackTeibloom Our winning entry comes from Shelley, a Chicago-Austin transplant like me, who had an even more interesting chain of events on her drive than I did. All I had to put up with was a blizzard and frozen highway that almost killed me and stopped my dream of having Reverend Al Green take me [...]
Sasquatch 2010 Festival Line-up announced
@ZackTeibloom The 2010 Sasquatch Festival Line-up is out and it’s another crop of Indie-rock all-stars that makes a trip to the Pacific Northwest for Memorial Day weekend sound tantalizing. Sasquatch goes down Saturday 5/29 to Monday 5/31 and the Pavement/My Morning Jacket/Massive Attack headliners are outstanding and even though I’d think LCD and Ween would [...]
