…So I don’t end up in a ditch at 4 a.m.

I’m trying to study this map as much as possible now. I got preposterously lost at my first festival (Bonnaroo, 2004)

At 12:15 a.m. I headed back to my camp site with Whitney and Kara. We’d just gotten in that day from an 8 hour drive and 4 hours of waiting in line to get in. We’d seen three or four shows, checked out the venders and were ready to pass out at our tents.

If you drew a path of where we wandered for four hours, it would look like this:

We’d start walking toward the general store we all remembered being next to, and then ask someone, “Hey, where’s Camp Daffy?” They’d all point in the direcetion we had just come from. We repeated this process easily 15 times.

At 4:30 am, we just gave up. Whitney and I decided we needed to sit down for a minute. I passed out (I would later realize that this was the moment I lost my cell phone).

Kara was the only one determinted to keep going. She waived down a security guy with a golf cart, who informed us there was also a camp “Daffney” and took us to our tent.

I guess the lesson is to get a good map and study it, but … I bet I won’t. -Zack
