Since 1999, Jack White has put out 8 world-class rock albums between The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.
While White was a god amongst men when he co-anchored The White Stripes with his raw, stripped down rock, his soaring guitars have been bolstered admirably with a full backing band. He is now an unstoppable force of rock.
You may counter that Bono is clearly a bigger star, but you want to know a secret about Bono? He’s a holier than thou douche bag. I guess that’s not a secret.
Back to Jack. Whether he’s melting faces with his guitar, busting out a marimba or organ solo, you know he’ll still be anchoring the lyrics and owning

When he created the riff of the year in “Icky Thump,” It took me a couple weeks to digest that no one had thought of what felt pure classic rock.
While he’s certainly a master of the studio, he’s a world class stage performer, working a crowd into a frenzy, despite “kid sister” Meg’s lifelessness. When I saw The White Stripes at Bonnaroo he flung himself off the drum kit, speakers and whatever got in his path.

I was going to tell you to get off your knees, and congratulate you on topping me in the area of favorite band fluffing, BUT I will reserve judgement until after we see the Raconteurs this summer. You can thank Michael Stipe for that. -AS
