Best visual show: Of Montreal

We’re back in Ft. Lauderdale, showered up, but still looking unmistakably like festival crashers, with our rugged beards and patchy sunburns. I may have the most bizarre farmers tans ever, contained exclusively on my right hand and forearm.

Anyway, last night’s of Montreal performance proved once again that lead singer Kevin Barnes will do anything to get the crowd worked up. Every second they were on stage was mesmorizing.

As well as they sounded, their spectacle was more impressive. My eyes were never bored as they jumped from their bassist wearing wings to a handful of masked dancers posing dramatically, to Barnes covering himself in whipped cream and writhing around on the floor for the encore performance of “The Past is a Grotesque Animal.” I think he had some white body wrap on himself as well, because he could have easily been naked otherwise.

They rocked the hour-long set, from the build-up on their opening “Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse” to the crowd-jumping inducing “Gronlandic Edit.” It was a fun, dancey show that reminded me why I spent so many hours singing along to Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer?

  1. Lauren West Said,

For the record, it was shaving cream. I got a mouthful when he came to the crowd. That’s what she said.
