-Z.T.

It Might Get Loud, a new guitar documentary starring Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, The Edge of U2 and my main man crush, Jack White debuts at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

According to Jambase.com,”The film features each axe man explaining how he changed the sound of the electric guitar to fit his vision and style. The three musicians were specifically chosen for their impact on popular music over time”

Obviously, I can’t wait. Jimmy and Jack are perfect choices, but I think we could have chosen someone better than The Edge. I feel like Wayne’s World 2*…I mean, I know it’s a small part, but couldn’t we get someone better?

My first suggestions of 80’s Guitar hero’s are Slash, Phillip Summers and Eddie Van Halen.

Who else ya got?

*You can thank me if that link makes you end up watching Wayne’s World 2 clips all day. Ahh yes, Gordon Street.

All you hippie sex people should know better. The kid who has already lost his rock cred by listing Simon and Garfunkel on his list of bands he’d rather play as ahead of Aerosmith also listed a drummer on his list of 80s guitar heroes in this here post. -AS

    David Byrne

    Peaked in the 80s.

I was totally thinking about Byrne, Sami. Great call… though as you prob know it would be hard to get a rational thought out of his head.-Z.T.

I think the Edge is a perfect fit for the film, that is if the criteria is guitarists who changed how a guitar sounds in order to fit their vision. I really don’t love the guy, but he did have a specific sound and way of playing guitar that is probably the only reason that U2 made it so far during the 80s.

  13. Leibo Said,

If it’s about changing the sound of the Electric Guitar, I would have to agree with everyone who has made the following calls probably in this order,

    David Byrne
    Prince
    Joe Perry
    Slash

Byrne took the guitar, and popular music to a whole other level and so many people mimicked (or at least tried to mimic his sound). As for Prince, he is partially responsible for where Jack White took his sound. He was among the first to directly plug his Guitar into a recording console, that’s what gives it that crunchy sound (which you hear in a lot of Jack White’s tracks).
