56 Hope Road takes it up a notch when the Festival Crashers are around.

~Z.T.~

12:45 p.m. After raining all morning, the sun came up as we got to 56 Hope Road

All I know about this band going in is that Marcus Rezak, our friend from The Hue, is playing guitar. They call themselves “Acoustic/Jam/Funk,” on MySpace, which I’d add soul to. When we get to the stage, Rezak glances at us and instantly turns it up a notch. He puts on his nasty blues face and adds an extra flourish to his strum.

56 Hope Road pulled off a convincing cover of Paul Simon’s “Under African Skies” off Graceland, which I’d been listening to that morning. I accidentally violated Andy’s “24 hour rule” in which you can’t listen to a band within a day of the show. Andy assures me it was just divine coincidence. I’m relieved.

Anne Katzfey’s prodding, soulful vocals had me throwing my arms up as Casey Fitzpatrick’s wailing sax turned me into a bobble head. It was hard for Andy to pry me away to go to moe.
