~Z.T.~The instructions from P.Funk were simple: Wiggle, hop, jump, do whatever you want. Just be kind to your neighbor. Welcome to W-E-F-U-N-K, better known as We Funk.
Pure funk power took over for two hours Sunday. A dozen musicians including five guitarists filled the stage with mayhem for the first hour as we waited for the man. A funk legend like George Clinton can come on stage when he feels like it and our master of ceremonies strolled on stage an hour in, to a tasty tease of Frank Zappa’s “I’m the Slime.”
“Something smells like a skunk and I want some.”
I danced with complete abandon as they played perfect renditions of “P.Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up)” and “Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)” off their classic 1975 album Mothership Connection. They jammed out on “Flashlight,” teased the crowd with James Brown’s “Payback” and threw down my favorite show of the weekend.
How can you not love Diaper Man? Unless maybe you have to put it on him.
