Steve Winwood

-A.S. Due to monsoons, traffic and construction in Chicago Wednesday night, we were a bit late getting to the United Center. We could hear the silky smooth voice of Steve Winwood as we hustled to our seats. I was not too thrilled about missing any of his set, but any negativity was washed away as we settled in and Winwood began “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” which included at least three or four killer Winwood guitar solos.The rest of Winwood’s set consisted of some new tunes off of his latest album, Nine Lives, as well as some older tunes that everyone was excited to hear and sing along with. The most impressive part about Winwood’s set was that his voice sounds just as good as ever. I announced to the rest of the people in our car on the ride home that I wished Steve Winwood could sing me lullabyes every night before I went to sleep. I would never have any problem falling asleep.

I enjoyed every second that we saw of Winwood’s set, and was happy to see him play both guitar and organ. We all agreed that we were kind of bummed not to hear some of the hits like “Gimme Some Lovin,'” “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys” and “Can’t Find My Way Home.” How little we knew…
