Sebadoh Just Happy To Be There

~Z.T.~ Chicago, IL. It’s fairly common for a sports team to just “be happy to be there,” but I haven’t been able to say that about a band before. Sebadoh was just happy to be there. They showed it, saying “Who the fuck are we?” questioning why they went on after Mission of Burma, considering they listened to Vs. growing up. Their singer went on to say, “Some people like Rush. I like Mission of Burma.” Andy is the former. I am the neither. I enjoy Sebadoh.
They showed why they deserved to play after Mission of Burma. They played straight through their 1993 album Bubble & Scrape. A 15 year-old indie-rock album, which scored a 9.2/10 on Pitchfork’s review of their re-release. I’d give the show a 6.4.We call this Mellow Yellow.

Smoother sounding guitars and a more compelling voice made listening to Sebadoh a pleasure after M.O.B, but our thoughts soon wandered. We were without VIP pit access for Public Enemy and decided to get close to their stage. -photos by Hilary
