Your Favorite Album Live

~Z.T.~ I can’t stop thinking about the brilliant concept Pitchfork had for Friday night. Three bands played their best album all the way through. It got Public Enemy to play some songs for the first time ever and it was clear Chuck D was loving every moment. It was hard to tell what Flava Flav was thinking, if anything. Probably, “What’s a hipster?!”

It got me thinking, if I was the king of a Summer Music Festival, which three bands would I have playing which three albums? The catch is the band must be together and still creating new music/touring.

These are my most listened to albums of my life and I’d die to hear them:

Weezer- Blue Album
Beck-Midnite Vultures

Who should my third choice be?

  3. Matthew Said,

A Live One? Oye, how about some real albums?

    Springsteen- Greetings From Asbury Park
    Billy Joel- Glass Houses
    Police- Sychronicity
    Pearl Jam- 10
Steely Dan- Can’t Buy a Thrill or Aja (the band can pick I’d be satisfied with either)
    Bob Dylan- Blonde on Blonde

All toured in 2008 and all ridiculous albums, satisfied TB?

  4. Teibs Said,

good stuff so far- sylvie: that would be tight if they came back, but picking a live album was kinda against the point. still a good choice though.

jeff- flips play pretty much all of yoshimi, but since it’s a concept album i love the thought.

matthew- some sick albums on here. i love blonde on blonde the most, but bobby doesn’t have it anymore. he could get through a few songs before i’d even notice he was blond on blondeing…

  5. Matthew Said,

i believe bobby has it, and have seen him have it, but at least you are getting more critical…

  6. hacocacyb Said,

I haven’t put in a lot of thought, I’m sure this wouldn’t be my #1, but I would LOVE to see Elvis Costello perform all of My Aim Is True.

  7. Matthew Said,

    i also mean to include:
Paul Simon’s Graceland, for 2 reaons:
    1. the obvious it fits into the little game
    2. He actually did that with David Byrne and several other guests at the Brooklyn Academy of Music opera house (and i was there)

    It breaks the rules but:

    JUNTA

Can you say that I’m too old when the angels have stole my red shoes?

  9. Teibs Said,

So far the winner from this is Paul Simon and David Byrne doing Graceland. I even had that exact album playing in my car as you typed it.

I’ll also take this as an opportunity to thank Matthew for all his ideas and links which have sparked many posts. Kudos best friend who I’ve never met.

  11. Rob Said,

I’d also like Yo Lo Tengo’s I can Hear The Heart Beating As One

  12. Teibs Said,

Damn. I was set to crown Kappel the winner with Graceland, but I too was thinking about OK Computer. I’d almost have to have a concept album in there and OK Computer has to be the best from our generation…but that’s a whole other discussion…

  13. Sork Said,

The concept album is a dying art….

Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On (I know he’s dead, but still…this make me wanna holla, and throw up both my hands!)

    or…

    Pink Floyd – Animals

I’d be glad just to see Animals performed as a poetry reading:

Harmlessly passing your time in the grasslands away.

You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.

You’ve got to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so when they turn their backs on you, you’ll get the chance to stick the knife in. (Guitar)
