Black Keys at Lollapalooza

After the awesome set the Black Keys had at Rothbury, I was really looking forward to seeing them at Lollapalooza. The amount of raw rock and roll that comes from these two guys is incredible. Patrick Carney beats his drums harder than Ike beat Tina. Dan Auerbach shows that the blues managed to find him in Akron, Ohio.Taking photos of Dan Auerbach becomes a game of timing, trying to make sure his hair isn’t in front of his face every time I snap a shot.

The set was pretty similar to the Rothbury set, but solid nonetheless. Highlights included Carney using a tambornine as a drum stick during one song. “Your Touch” off of Magic Potion had Zack singing along the whole tune. “Strange Times” was great, but it made me think of how sweet it would have been to see Danger Mouse come up on stage with them. Gnarls Barkley isn’t here until Sunday, but a guy can hope.Patrick Carney pounds his drums with authority.

The set closed with “I Got Mine,” just as it did at Rothbury. Immediately after the show I found my friend Katie, who I have to thank for introducing me to the Black Keys. We got so caught up in talking about how great they are, that I didn’t make it over to take pictures of Cat Power in time. Whoops.
