The Raconteurs Beatle Moment

~Z.T.~ I never understood why they did it. Why did those girls at Beatles concerts yell every time Paul, John and George opened their mouths? Don’t you want to hear them? Then I did it. For my boy Jack White. As soon as he started in on “Consolers of the Lonely” I screamed like a girl. I couldn’t help myself.

BOOM BOOM. pause. pause. BOOM BOOM. pause. pause. The bass was all up in our face even before Jack and company took the stage and it never let up. Even on acoustic songs.

Jack and Brendan wowed me as they traded “bao’s” on the intro to “Level” and sung in unison throughout. Jack ticked the ivories on “You Don’t Understand Me” before getting vicious on his axes.

He broke a string on his old school-looking acoustic guitar with a painting on the back during “Top Yourself,” made a guitar change, got the painted guitar back and kissed it. “Old Enough” was helped tremendously with violin, and “Switch and the Spur” had a glorious build-up to Jack’s epic solo.

"The Beautiful blond (with the handlebar moustache) is Brendan Benson." -JW

“Steady As She Goes” deserves it’s own entry. Jack and Brendan leaned in close as they blazed their guitars together before Jack became a one-man show. Even if his back was to us for much of it. He worked the mod pedal over with one hand like it was a woman as he hammered on and off.

“I have broken two stings. Brendan has broken two bass pedals,” Jack said to us before making sweet love to the talk box and doing a call and response of “I say Steady as She Goes” you say “Are You Steady Now?
I had a legitimate yell-off with the fro’d new friend next to me during “Rich Kid Blues” as we faced each other and belted “I knowww what’s goiiiing onn!” My hands got sore from the overhead clap during “Hold Up.” My face got sore from smiling at Brendan soloing on his amp. My heart got sore when Jack said sweetly “Why you always so nice to us?”

They closed with “Together” as the crowd swayed one arm side to side and a nasty “Blue Veins.” Blake tells me they encored with “Many Shades of Black” and “Broken Boy Solider,” but Uncle Thom was calling from Radiohead’s stage.

  1. Rebecca Said,

What a sweet account :) I know what you mean about shrieking when Jack sings, it’s like you can’t help it, when he comes in with ‘if you’re looking for an accomplice…’ it nearly slays me.

I missed the webcast so fingers crossed for some youtube clips :)
