-A.S. Chicago, IL Eric Blumenfeld of Kinetix introduced me to Jamie Lidell only a couple of weeks ago. After picking up an album or two, I was quite excited to see that he was going to be at Lollapalooza. This member of the tribe digs soul music, and finding new soul music is not always an easy task.
Jamie Lidell must be blowing up, because there was a huge crowd that sang along the whole time.

Lidell opened with “Another Day” which was appropriate, because that was the first song of his that I had ever heard. The surprisingly large crowd sang along to every word. Lidell and his band clearly have fun up there on stage. His bass player wore a Elvis/Evil Kenievel jump suit, and his sax player was wearing a white robe and Raiden hat.
You must be able to sing great if you can pull of the size too small blazer with no shirt under it.

It was also great to see that Lidell brings a modern flair to soul music. He often used a second mic that had voice effects on it, one of which being the T Pain vocoder. He also did an entire looped vocal jam for a song, using his voice as all of the instruments while his band took a break. I only wish I could have stayed for the rest, but I had to cross the field to get ready to shoot Lupe Fiasco.
