-A.S. Chicago, IL I really only knew Mark Ronson the producer (Amy Wineshouse’s Back to Black) going into this show. I had no idea what to expect. His band, wearing mod suits, slowly filtered in on stage and included a horns section and string section. The brief part of Mark Ronson’s set that I caught made me wish that we had gone to his show at the after party the night before.

The string section opened up with set by playing “Eleanor Rigby.” Ronson came out with his guitar, and they played a rocking instrumental tune to warm up the crowd. Then it was time for the party. Ronson introduced a singer to the stage, and they started a new tune. Before I knew what had happened, Rhymefest was running across the stage hyping everyone in the crowd up.Just a couple of Grammy award winning friends, no biggie.

Rhymefest isn’t as famous as the other Chicago rappers that played Lollapalooza this weekend, but you know who he is. He co-wrote Kanye’s “Jesus Walks.” Turns out he’s a great hip hop artist too. He and Ronson put on a great show for the few songs that I had the chance to catch before I had to head off to wait in line to shoot NIN.
