ACL Artist Spotlight: Jamie Lidell

-A.S. Just before Lollapalooza, Eric Blumenfeld from Kinetix told me about Jamie Lidell. He knows my musical tastes as well as anybody, and I definitely trust his. Having never heard of Jamie Lidell before Lollapalooza, I was surprised to see such a big crowd at his day set. Turns out, he deserved the big crowd.
Jamie Lidell is also proof of my Grey’s Anatomy Theory. All it takes to make a band famous is to get one song played on that show. It worked for the Fray. Lidell’s song “Multiply” is featured on the show’s second soundtrack.

Although it’s not the newest of sounds, it works. Not many other people are doing what Lidell is doing now. His album, Jim, has gotten frequent rotation since Lollapalooza. I looked through some music videos to give our readers an introduction to him. For songs that are very much not creepy, these are some mildly creepy videos. Hope to see you at ACL on Friday from 3:30-4:30 pm on the Dell Stage.

  1. Shore Said,

I hope Zack watched the first video closely. I think that Jamie Lidell is going for the dessert deliciousness in that first video. He axed the head off the unicorn person. He must be going for the contents of that horn.

  2. Teibs Said,

I actually just watched the first five seconds and then listened to the rest until now, so thanks for the notice Andy.

As my good friend is alludes to, I often speak of a fantasy where I remove a unicorn’s horn and procure it’s delectable innards which I assume consist of Creme Brule and Chocolate Mousse.

Our friend Jamie was really on the right track here. He seduced that Unicorn’s brains out and when she let her guard down, off with her head. So far, so good.

Then, like some kind of delusional mad man, he cut off the hair and sang about the hair. Jamie! What are you doing, man?! You had the horn filled with the creme de la creme right there for the taking!

This video was the biggest tease ever and has filled with me sorrow and a deep concern for Jamie Lidell’s state of mind. I hope we see him at ACL and provide him with the guidance he so desperately needs.
