What would you ask Luda?

Posted by admin On October - 7 - 2008

~Z.T.~ I’m lucky enough to have secured an interview with a Mr. Luda Cris tomorrow. I’m not allowed to ask about the Obama song or the social responsibility aspect of rap. Other than that, all is fair game, including Luda Juice.

Festival Crashers: The Radio Interview

Posted by admin On October - 5 - 2008

wzrd logo Festival Crashers: The Radio Interview~Z.T.~ We met this guy, Ed, at Rothbury who has a radio show on 88.3 FM, the Wizard, at Northeastern University. He invited us to come on his Sunday afternoon radio show. Why not?

We expected no listeners. I mean, who listens to college radio, ever, let alone during the Bears game? No one. Thankfully.

Getting there was a field day. Campus security let us into the building and told us to go downstairs. Expecting us to find the station based on those directions is like saying “meet me by the tent” at a festival without specifying what stage you’re at or what tent you mean at all. One more festival?

~Z.T.~ “Just when I thought I was out … they pull me back in. “

Festival Crasher Vixen Sami Slovy, the Voodoo Lady, is assisting in ground transportation for Voodoo Festival in New Orleans October 24th to 26th and said she can assist in scoring a couple media passes for the Festival Crashers.voodoomain One more festival? This is a stacked festival, my friends. And did I mention, backstage laminates? Workin’ on a photo pass.

What do you think, Andy? Can we make one more crash this season? I got the itch. Can we live while we’re young?!

Andy’s Top 10 Shows at ACL

Posted by admin On October - 2 - 2008

1. Foo Fighters – I left this show saying it was the best of the summer. Dave Grohl is the rock star of our generation, and he works a crowd as good if not better than the best front men around. I felt the need to reiterate just how good the Foo Figthers were, instead of taking you back to 1996 with a simple DUH!!!

2. The Fratellis – It was hot as balls during their set, but I was way too busy getting my socks rocked off to care. The brothers Fratelli put on a mean show, and have fun songs to get down to. I was excited to see them going in, but they far exceeding my expectations.

3. John Fogerty – Zack’s hating couldn’t even bring by good time at Fogerty down. I’m a sucker for concerts where I can sing along to all the songs, and I did just that for his set. Hearing songs like “Fortunate Son” and “Down on the Corner” live from a rock legend was a treat.

4. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings – I’m sorry we didn’t see them until now. They’re funky, have soul and Sharon Jones is a bundle of energy on stage. She’s engaging and has a set of pipes on her.

5. Gnarls Barkley – Despite not having his voice at full force, Cee Lo Green was a trooper. With top notch banter and a voice that is above average, even when not at full strength, he managed to put on a great show. Danger Mouse and the rest of the band provide a great vehicle for Cee Lo to make those songs dance.

6. David Byrne – This show would certainly be higher if I had caught more of it. N.E.R.D. started late, thus making my arrival at Byrne’s stage slightly tardy. I still heard “Once in a Lifetime” and “Life During Wartime.” Loved the choreographed dances to every song.

7. Beck – I heard practically everything I wanted to, and Beck puts on a great show. I was really tired during this, so my enjoyment level may not have been where it should. I’m definitely glad that I saw him though.

8. Jamie Lidell – Despite his sax player not wearing the Raiden hat, their soul filled set was terrific. The more I listen to Lidell, the more impressed I am. I like his voice, his songs and he has a great stage persona too. Looking forward to seeing him again next week at the Metro.

9. Vampire Weekend – I like their music, and enjoyed seeing them at both ACL and Bonnaroo. The thing is, it’s not very different than the album. I prefer some embellishment live. The addition of a string section for a couple of songs was a nice way of mixing it up, and Ezra Koenig provides some decent banter.

10. N.E.R.D. – I’d have these guys ahead of Vampire Weekend and maybe even higher if I stayed for the whole show. I know this. I loved what I saw, and it cemented my opinion that Pharrell is one of the most fun people to watch on stage on the planet.
