3 bands for eternity…

~Z.T.~ Dave “wildcard” Hart had an away message that stole my attention as I was doing some Chicbuds Festival Crashers promo work:

If you were sent to an island and could listen to 3 bands for eternity, who would they be? My criteria was that I not only love them, but they have a deep enough catalogue so I wouldn’t get bored and enough variation in material that it would feel like multiple bands.

The Beatles: The easiest choice since Raconteurs vs. Gnarls at ACL. I’m not even going to spend time describing why the Beatles are top 3. Moving on…

Led Zeppelin: Everyone needs to get the Led out on at least a bi-weekly basis. No one rocked harder (a case could be made for the Who) but Led could slow it down like few “metal” bands and if you sent me to an island with (I-IV, Physical Graffiti, Houses of the Holy and Song Remains the Same and a hammer to crack me some coconuts, I’d be good to go.) OK maybe something else besides coconuts. Not a big fan. Can my island have mangoes?
Frank Zappa: I don’t think I’ve really expressed my obsession for FZ on this blog, but I worship the man. The most misunderstood musician of the 20th century. A brilliant composer, workaholic, absolutely hilarious social critic. I’ve got 11 hours and 46 minutes of FZ on my computer and another 15 albums on vinyl and I still don’t have it all. One of the most influential artists of our time (jam bands, you’re welcome) and he hits that “G-Spot tornado” in my ear like few ever have. And yes, that is a picture of me as FZ on the toilet for Halloween.

I don’t think I needed a video to convince you of The Beatles or Led Zeppelin, but watch this FZ music video of “Inca Roads” years before people were doing anything like this. Also, the 2:35 point is when you should really pay attention. Claymation!

Who would you pick? Why?

  2. Anonymous Said,

    Beatles (without questions)
    Radiohead
    Paul Simon

Runners Up – UM, Kula Shaker, Traffic, Bela Fleck, Chicago, Phish, etc.

I purposely didnt include any jazz in my decision making because then it would have just been to hard.
