Catchiest song runner-ups

Posted by admin On December - 8 - 2008

~Z.T.~ There were a lot more winners that I imagined. But that’s not what this post is for. This is for everyone else. You took the time to post. The least I could do is check out your songs and let you know what I thought of them.

Erik- Clearly didn’t see the 2008 part of the contest, but thanks for getting ‘Tubthumping” back in style. Also, fantastic job with the “Day bow bow” It’s Always Sunny reference:

Josh- T.I.’s “My Life, Your Entertainment” was an inspired choice and we could have picked pretty much any track off that album. But we didn’t pick this one.
Rob- McArthur Park by Richard Harris is the antithesis of the catchiest song of all-time. About ten seconds in, I realized you were doing this on purpose. Well played, sir. Where on earth did you find this?
Halley- I do love Byrne and Eno’s “Strange Overtones” and the entire Everything that Happens Will Happen Today album, but it’s really not all that catchy. Eno never won acclaim for being catchy. Airy, spacious ambient rock, yes. Can’t get the tune out of my head? No. (Thanks for getting us the job by the way. We love you.)
Laura- We applaud you for the Lil Wayne “weeoweeowee like a cop car” sound effects. Andy LOL’d when he read it. Like with Mr. T period I period, you could pick any song off this album and call it catchiest. We chose to lick the wrapper.
Debbie- I really wanted to put Beck’s “Gamma Ray” on here. Ya know what, the more I think about it, I really want to slip it in there. Let me think about this. But yeah, Spoon was in 2007.
Liza- Oh man, “100 yard dash” by raphael saadiq is too good to ignore. Was I really tired the first time I listened to this or something? Fantastic. You win headphones, too!

Zach- MIA was 2007. “Paper Planes” would have been a #1 seed last year.
Seth- Very excited to see the power of a good solo is alive in you. I’d like to think me playing Queen over our cabin speakers had something to do with that. This is a stunning solo, but just not catchy in the way we’re looking for. Rock on though.
Jess- This song doesn’t even have a hook. Way too much screaming to be a nominee. Glad to see you still listen to a slight variation of every band you listened to in high school. Kidding. Kind of.

Jordan- I hate to leave a member of Festival Crasher Beta team hanging, but none of these quite made the cut: “House of Cards” is a lovely song, but not catchy, I’m not listening to Mraz, we came pretty damn close to picking that N.E.R.D. “girls in the line for the bathroom” song, it kills me to have no Raconteurs, but when we run a hardest rock bad-ass contest, don’t worry. The Roots are a good call, we picked a different V.W. song and Wyclef was ’07. Thanks for playing.

Ira- Miss you at the office, man. OK- I really love the Campesinos song. How could you not love this lyric: “Conversations about what “Breakfast Club” character you’d be. I’d be the one that dies. ‘No one dies.’ Well, then what’s the point?” Still, no hook. “Dancing Choose” is a good call, though. Fun, snappy TV on the Radio, but I can’t hum along.

Allie- fairly cool songs, but they’re easily the least catchy songs I’ve ever heard in my entire life. You later confirmed online that they were jokes. Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

Sean- These Ting-a-Tings are pretty damn catchy, but Andy threatened violence if they made the list. My family calls corn on the cob holders “Ting-a-Tings.” That do anything for ya?

Josh Jones: Kings of Leon and TV on Radio will find a spot in top albums of the year, but not catchiest and “I Kissed a Girl” was already chosen.

Kristen- Good try with “lollipop,” but we already licked the rapper.

Liv- Please tell me you don’t still listen to B96…Great choices though. Two #1 seeds.

Blake- Imagining you saying “Ella, ella, ella” out loud, laughing and then putting Death Magnetic back on makes everyone a winner.

The question is, did you make it all the way through MacArthur Park?
