-A.S. MGMT put out one of the best debut albums of the year, and catchiest overall. Lil Waye’s Tha Carter 3 gave us several singles and club bangers. None bigger than “Lollipop.” Can the hipsters rally behind their band or will the rest of the world propel Weezy to victory?

“Lollipop” was absolutely inescapable this year, that’s how catchy it is. I felt like everywhere I went I heard it at least five times a night. Even Girl Talk, lover of all things pop, had to sample this one. Lil Wayne is everywhere right now, and can get away with doing a tour called I Am Music. This guy knows what sucks people in, and it probably doesn’t hurt that he wrote a song named after candy filled with sexual innuendo.

Andy’s right. “Lollipop” was huge. So huge he had to make up the word “unescapable.” But was it catchy? Hardly. You can’t hum it, you can’t dance to it and it doesn’t get stuck in your head. At most, you can sway to it at a club before deciding to have “One More Drink.” On the other hand, everyone and their favorite pretend bi-sexual singer is singing “Electric Feel.” Ooh, girl indeed. The psychedelic beeps and boops are even more captivating than the make your own video game. “You can feel it in your mind or you can do it all the time. Plug it in, change the world.” Hipsters, unite!
