Metro Station “Shake It” vs. Vampire Weekend “A-Punk”

~Z.T.~ Vampire Weekend dominated the indie-rock buzz all throughout 2008 and somehow exceeded lofty expectations with a brilliant Graceland-inspired debut album. Metro Station is probably only famous b/c their front man is Miley Cyrus’ half brother.

~Z.T.~ A-punk. Right from the opening riff. Quick, surf-y, head-bobbing, toe-tapping licks. Snappy snares and squeaky bass. Strings and woodwinds intertwine. Head-bobbing toe-tapping licks. Snappy snare. Ay Ay Ay Ay!

Also, I’m not a big rule follower myself, but Metro Station’s album came out in 2007. DQ biotch.

-A.S. We picked these songs together Zack, so you can’t fault me for that. Nor can you disqualify it. Not only is this song in the bracket, but it’s going to win the whole contest. Anyone that knows me, or my musical tastes, knows how unlikely it would be that I would like this song or this band. I don’t just like it, I love it. It gets stuck in my head for the rest of the day, every time I hear it.

This summer, Zack and I were walking back to our tent at the 10k Lakes Festival in the middle of the night. I distinctly remember walking past a happening dance party and hearing “Shake It” blaring. Seriously people. If hippies dig this song in the middle of the night, then it really is the bee’s knees. This song transcended to whatever plane or planet they were on that night, and got their booties shaking. That’s how catchy it is.
