New Years Resolutions for Festival Crashers

champagne~Z.T.~ Andy and I did a little Hanukkah gift exchange Sunday night. He gave me a framed, blown-up photo he took of Jack White (which I described as the best piece of artwork I’ve ever owned) and I got him Tenacious D: The Complete Masterworks Volume 2. We watched the brilliant documentary, which starts off with an early D performance in ’96. After they play “Tribute” for David Cross and Bob Odenkirk, Odenkirk asks them what they want. J.B. says he wants a record contract, a T.V. show/T.V. special and a movie.

Flash forward ten years later and the D has accomplished all those goals as they prepare for a sold-out world tour. I like to consider us the Tenacious D of blogging, so I thought maybe we should make some goals as well.

Andy and I like to joke about a four-year plan where, four years from now, we’ll have a Festival Crashers RV, book, magazine, movie, jet, clothing line, sandwich company, etc. A lot has to happen before those dreams come true. I’ll admit some of those ideas are pretty far fetched, but what can we do in 2009 that would lead us there?

First, we need to move the blog to WordPress in January. The next goal is to get linked up from bigger blogs with a goal of 5x our readership by June and then taking that number, ripping it in half, and doubling it by the end of the year.

We also need to get people to start paying for our travel expenses. Working Monday to Thursday and then spending all that money at a festival all summer long was fun, but we’re 24 now. We need an expense account. And our own apt’s.In summary- in 2009 we need to move to WordPress, get linked to big music blogs who pay for our expenses, make Festival Crashers beach balls for every festival we go to, get our own apartments (Chicago and Austin) and make our readership go up 10x. Also, Andy still needs to crash a show. Happy New Years!
