~Z.T.~ It had FAIL written all over it. It’s 8:45 p.m. and, after a couple wrong turns, I’m in front of U.S. Cellular field. The opening band went on at 8 in the west loop, the show is sold out and I don’t have tickets. I tell Maya (my navigation) to wake up and get to the venue at 9:10.
There’s nowhere to park, so I send Laura out to explore the system at the front door. She tells me they’re checking tickets, but not scanning them. I tell her to befriend a group of three or more people out for a cig and have them one of them go inside and pass back their friends’ stubs once their inside.
When I find parking and walk up to the venue I see the real plan.
They’re stamping hands. The stamp is a skull the size of a silver dollar on the wrist.I cleaned out my car last week, but thankfully left the Pita Pit stamper (to get unlimited buy 10 get one free pitas) I stole in college in there.
We re-created the stamp with about 40 stamps in a pattern that vaguely resembled a skull, but mostly just looked like 40 overlapping smiling pitas. Either way, we flashed the stamp and kept walking so they wouldn’t have a chance to notice the fake.
We strolled up to the third row with just enough time to set our coats down before Les Savy Fav took the stage. For the WIN!

Genius! You could have tried the good old…wet the stamp and re-stamp it. But who woulda thunk…a handy dandy rubber stamp in your car… I can’t believe you stole the pita pit stamp?! How could you live with yourself?
You used to be able to get in super easy at Northerly Island Pavillion. The first year they were open it was so easy to get in…all you needed was a ticket stub for re-entry. I think that summer I saw Jack Johnson, Matisyahu, Tom Petty, and a few other awesome shows. But now you can at least hear the show on the beach behind the venue. I think.
