Jason Segel thinks the wedding should be at Bonnaroo

segelz1@ZackTeibloom I always knew I’d get along with Jason Segel. From the first scene in the first episode of “Freaks and Geeks” when he said, “Hey I believe in god, man. I’ve seen him. I felt his power. He plays  drums for Led Zeppelin and his name is John Bonham, baby!*”

He was funny, gracious, told me I had an awesome voicemail and even had good advice for me.

I told him about Jason getting married the same weekend as Bonnaroo and he said, “You move the wedding to Bonnaroo. Erect a tent at Bonnaroo and have a wedding.” Lawyered!

“I missed Rush. I’m too young for that. I was introduced to them on “Freaks and Geeks.” Neal Pert is one of the best drummers of all time.” Segel said. He played a Bonham and Buddy Rich-obsessed drummer on “Freaks and Geeks,” with his custom 40+ piece “big gigantic drum kit.”

Segel was a drummer on “Freaks and Geeks,” but his real passion is for the keys. He says he plays every day and wrote all the songs in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and is writing the music for the Russell Brand follow-up to “Marshall,” “Get him to the Greek.”

“Music is a big part of my life. I’m kind of stuck on my Van,” he said after going to see Van Morrison perform Astral Weeks at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this year. I was excited to hear Segel is a proponent of vinyl and listening to albums all the way through. He was talking about Miles Davis and was pretty psyched when I told him a deluxe 50th anniversary had just been released. In “I Love You, Man” Segel plays a little guitar and sings with Rudd on a man date before they see Rush together.

When you have some time, check out Segel rocking out in “Freaks and Geeks”:

Mission Control (Segel, Rogen, Franco) playing “Sunshine of Your Love”
“Lady L” Segel’s love ballad
“Jesus is Just Alright”

*Andy- Don’t think this is fuel for the upcoming Moon/Bonham argument. Bonham may be god, but Moon is the devil.
