@ZackTeibloom Perry Ferrell surprised … absolutely no one by naming his band Jane’s Addiction a headliner at Lollapalooza this summer. Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune wrote that “Depeche Mode, the Beastie Boys and a reunited Jane’s Addiction are expected to headline the fifth annual Lollapalooza Aug. 7-9 in Grant Park” but it has not been confirmed by the festival.
Festival Crashers can attest that The Beastie Boys are a fantastic live show and I know I’ll be doing my Adam Horowitz impression the entire week leading up to the festival, but Depeche Mode and Jane’s Addiction are not headliner material.
The Beastie Boys are also working on a studio album, tentatively titled Tadlock’s Glasses, for release this year. I hope they give the Beastie’s the Radiohead spot (With no one playing against them on Saturday.)
Luckily, Lolla is always chalk full of great acts, so I wouldn’t worry too much about this weak initial offering. Kot added that, “Three more arena-level headliners are expected to be included when the complete lineup is announced next month.”
Who would you like to see fill out this festival? I’m sick of coming up with fake line-ups and then being disappointed when they don’t lead up to my expectations. Hodge- I’m looking at you.

I can’t say I’m more mad at this line-up than I was at Langerado’s, but it feels close. The saving grace for Lolla will be the non-headliners. Langerado’s headliners were non-headliners.
On a positive note, this may give Zack and I the time we need to shower and suit up for the VIP after parties.

I always tend to love the BMI stage best, so I’m waiting for more. What about White Stripes? I’m pulling for some Jenny Lewis, The Bird and the Bee, Submarines…please, please, please.

Are you seriously doubting that Depeche Mode will draw a festival-size crowd?! You need to do your research. They played Coachella a few years ago and KILLED it, and they have played many other fests (not yet Lolla, however). See crowd sizes for yourself from ’06: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncvx8OVWaqg or check out some of the Coachella vids.
Depeche is one of the biggest bands of the past 20+ years. Most everyone I have talked to is totally pumped. This will likely — with many of the other bands who have been rumored/confirmed — be one of the best Lollas in a while.

Isn’t No Doubt touring? What about Blink 182? Thought they were getting back together…Kanye was a good act to see last year–Let’s bring Lil’ Wayne to Lolla! I’d go see the Killers too…

Amy- I stand corrected. I definitely underestimated the Depeche Mode fan-base. I guess the fact that I never got into them doesn’t mean they’re not popular.
