American Idol Top 7 Perform

adam6 @AndyShore I think it’s finally a competition now that Scott MacIntyre is gone. You could make an argument for any of the top 7 to win American Idol. Tonight should be a good episode. The theme this week is music from the movies. Quentin Tarantino is doling out advice to the contestants this week. I have no idea what qualifies him to give advice for a singing contest, but this should be interesting. I just hope that Lil Rounds doesn’t go for a Celine Dion reprise and sing “My Heart Will Go On.” My attention span will too.

7:05 This might be my new favorite montage of the season. Tarantino montage slightly edges Motown and Michael Jackson.

7:06 It would make this show more interesting, if the top vote getter from tonight got to have a song in a Tarantino flick.

7:08 Allison Iraheta is singing “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.” This is not the arrangement I expected from Allison. Her rocker chick schtick isn’t coming through tonight. She is singing it well though. Simon called her the hope for the girls.

7:16 Anoop Desai is singing “Everything I Do, I Do For You.” Aside from the ridiculous blazer Anoop Dogg is rocking, he sounds good. He’s sticking to a song that fits his voice well.

7:22 Adam Lambert is singing “Born To Be Wild.” Tarantino, like everybody else, looks forward to seeing what Adam will drop on us every week. I’ve been saying this guy is destined for Broadway. Tonight he is all rock and roll, albeit slightly over the top (as only he could). The arrangement for this is killer. Adam continues to separate himself from the other contestants. Simon said his performance was slightly Rocky Horror Picture Show. I laughed.

7:30 Was that a Tarantino impression from Seacrest?

7:32 Matt Giraud is singing “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman.” Glad to see Matt back at the keys tonight. He is in his element there. He sounds good, but not great. Adam Lambert is a tough act to follow. The judges didn’t love her performance either.

7:41 Danny Gokey is singing “Endless Love.” He continues to sound great every week. I don’t always love his song choices though. The judges liked his performance. I think that both Anoop and Adam had better performances.

7:48 Seacrest is all over the impressions tonight. Now he’s doing Randy.

7:50 Kris Allen is signing “Falling Slowly.” I think avoiding his guitar on this song was a good call. It wouldn’t have fit on this song. In terms of the ballads he’s sang so far this season on Idol, this isn’t his best. I’d put him on par with Danny, but still behind Anoop and Adam. Kara called it one of his best performances.

7:57 Lil Rounds is singing “The Rose.” I think she finally figured out the advice the judges were trying to give her. She’s singing something that let’s her show off that golden set of pipes. Paula loved it, but Simon did not.
