lolla2@ZackTeibloom What they lack in headliners, they make up for in supporting acts. Lollapalooza’s line-up is finally out there and official. It looks a lot like the leaked line-up a few weeks ago with a few unfortunate subtractions and some exciting additions.

I did call that Tenacious D wasn’t going to play and sadly they’re not. Same with OK Go, Regina Spektor, Lily Allen and Franz Ferdinand.

Those are a few acts I really wanted to see, but there are a batch of new additions worth getting excited about: Snoop Dogg, Lou Reed, Dan Auerbach, STS9, Los Campesinos, Rise Against and Of Montreal.

So, what does the final line-up look like?

A few notes before you get into the big list. As we knew going in, the headliners are an embarrassment compared to last year. Let’s put them head to head for kicks. ’08 on the left, ’09 on the right.
Radiohead vs. Depeche Mode “That’s like comparing apples to some fruit no one’s ever heard of” -Maebe Funke. I’ve never met a hardcore Depeche Mode fan. Ever.
Rage Against the Machine vs. Beastie Boys They almost teamed up for the “Rhyme and Reason” tour together a bunch of years ago. Would have been a brilliant tour, but if I had to pick one, reason (Rage) translates far better to the stage than rhyme (Beasties).
Wilco vs. Jane’s Addiction Does anyone still care about Jane’s Addition? I don’t think I ever did.
NIN vs. Tool  NIN has never been my thing, but they put on a brilliant show. And they scare me a million times less than Tool.
Kanye 9,2 vs. The Killers I’ve never heard The Killers, but @Mattsilver tells me they’re pretty excellent live. Kanye can be hit or miss and this performance wasn’t his best. ’08 wins 4-1.
So, ’08 has better headliners, ’09 has the best support acts … barely. Try telling Lupe, The Raconteurs, Girl Talk, Gnarls Barkley, Jamie Lidell, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, MGMT, Mark Ronson, Blues Traveler, Saul Williams, Explosions in the Sky and The Kills they were part of a worse group of afternoon sets.
Here’s your 2009 Lollapalooza line-up. I still think it’s the worst Lollapalooza line-up since it moved to Chicago, but I do love a lot of these bands, so I won’t complain. Too much.

  1. @MattSilver Said,

I’d say that the two best headliners will be The Killers and Kings Of Leon. I saw KOL open for U2 years ago and didn’t love their music but they put on a great show. More recently, I saw them perform on SNL and liked them a lot more the second time around. They’re new music’s gonna sound awesome outdoors.

Another band everyone must check out: Hey Champ. I’m begging you all to check them out (at least preview them before going to Lolla). I saw them, along with @Andyshore open for Lupe Fiasco on Halloween and they rocked harder than any other opening band I’ve seen before.

  2. Blake Said,

Ive seen KOL 5 times. While I’m really not a huge fan of their new stuff they always put on a hell of a show. I’m stoked for the Arctic Monkey, if you havent checked them out you should. The killers first album was sick but they seem to keep on getting poppier and poppier, Coheed and Cambria put on a good show but may be a little too heavy or too scary (dont worry zack, ill hold you) for the festival crashers. Saw Living Things at lolla 2 or 3 years ago, whenever they were there. I actually got into their album but they disappointed live. Also very interested in seeing TV on the Radio.

Agreed tho, prob weakest lineup since its been in chicago.

Oh and how could I forget, SNOOOOOOOOP
