drive-by-truckers @AndyShore The Drive By Truckers have been around for years, but I feel like they’ve been gaining steam lately. One of my good friends told me how impressive they were when he saw them at Bonnaroo when I was in high school.

Recently, I’ve been hearing their name come up a lot in conversation. It may have something to do with the upcoming album they’re releasing with Booker T. The buzz had me looking forward to their set at Jazz Fest, despite a less then stellar review from their PBS taping the night before.

In terms of Southern Rock, the Drive By Truckers came off as standard. Patterson Hood is an engaging front man. The crowd ate up every word as he told the story of a man down on his luck. The Drive By Truckers provide a great backdrop for Hood to tell as story. At times their guitars wail, and Booker T manning the organ was a solid addition. A fellow Indiana University alum, I was glad to finally see Booker T live. Zack and I had been hearing about Trombone Shorty all morning, so we decided to head out. Booker T looked like he was ready to take on a bigger role in the set, as we wandered in the direction of the child prodigy turned prodigy.
