@AndyShore Over the past year, Dave Matthews Band recorded their new album in New Orleans. So it was almost as a hometown hero, that they took the stage on Sunday at Jazz Fest. They were even introduced as such. I had little to no intention of staying long at their set, with Earth, Wind and Fire taking the stage 30 minutes after DMB. You just don’t pass up the opportunity to shoot someone who is so animated on stage.
DMB opened their set with their most quoted song of all time in “Two Step.” It sounded cool from the photo pit, hearing the whole crowd singing “Celebrate we will, because life is short, but sweet for certain.” They followed that up with “Grey Street.” Then, Dave picked up an electric guitar and dedicated their new song, “Why I Am” to the late, great LeRoy Moore. The whole crowd chanted “LeRoy! LeRoy!” as DMB launched into the rocking new tune. Leaving for Earth, Wind and Fire, it hurt to walk away from “Ants Marching.” Our new friends from California informed us after the show that DMB had covered “Burning Down the House.”
