Bonnie Prince Billy’s Beware

beware@ZackTeibloom This album never stopped growing on me. I should have listened to it as soon as I got it. The press release from the lovely Jessica Linker had the word Manpon in it. It was funny.

Somehow, I let it sit on my desk for two months before Paul Rudd told me he wanted Bonnie Prince Billy on his man crush team. That was all I needed to hear.

I finally gave this album a spin and it hasn’t left my car stereo’s 25-CD holder since. It’s great for driving, porch hanging and a newly single guy with lyrics like, “It’s pretty easy to have your fun, when you don’t belong to anyone.”

The album is a bit more folky and country sounding than I usually go for, but Billy converts me. It’s a layered album, full of strings and a number of voices that come together for a sound that makes me deny this lyrics: “You don’t love me/that’s alright.” I love him.

I’ve listened to it so much, I’ve memorized when the “You are now listening to a promotional copy of Beware by Bonnie Prince Billy” comes in. Sometimes the voice comes in Spanish. If I ever want @andlaurasays to laugh I’ll text her “You are still enjoying a promotional copy of Beware, by Bonnie Prince Billy.” I still am. So should you.

Good, huh? 8.7/10
