Successful Crash #16: The Wristband Situation @Stubb’s for TV on the Radio

stubbs@ZackTeibloom Patience is a virtue on a crash. Having the right wristband helps too. I’ve started a little Stubb’s wristband collection. Unlike baseball cards and DVDs from the mid-to-late 90’s, this collection should pay off one day.

I brought my collection with me and was a bit disappointed to see that today’s color was blue. I hadn’t acquired a blue yet. I decided dark green was close enough and decided to go in through the restauraunt. The issue was that at 8:30, it wasn’t dark enough for a dark green to look like a blue. Especially when the guard had a flashlight. He turned me away.

I made my way to the main entrance and was waiting for enough of a crowd swell to make a move where all I’d have to do is flash the wristband. Unfortunately, my hovering technique caught the attention of a female guard who whispered something along the lines of “that guy in the Led Zeppelin t-shirt who needs a haircut has the wrong wristband” into the wristband checker’s ear. (I’m not just being paranoid. They looked at me while whispering.)

At that point, I decided to make the green band blue.* I walked five blocks to find a shop that would sell blue Sharpies.* What a goose chase that was. I walked back to the venue and put on a hoodie to disguise myself from the guards that had turned me down. As I zipped up the hoodie, I saw four people walking out of the venue. I followed them for half a block and realized they were headed to their car. I asked if I could have one of their wristbands and was given one as long as I was careful not to rip off the guy’s arm hair. “Don’t worry, I’ve done this before,” I told him.

Review of the TVOTR show

*When I was little, my Grammy used to tell the story of how when my older cousin Jon was a little boy he used to say “My eyes are ‘geen,’ but when I’m older, they’ll be ‘boo.'” She thought it was adorable that he thought his eyes would one day change color. It was a good story, but if i had to estimate how many times I was told that story BEFORE my Grammy got Alzheimer’s, I’d put it at a solid 25. No joke.

[…] A short set, standard encore and minimal banter doesn’t a wonderful show make, but it was a crash. 8.4/10 […]
