TV on the Radio @ Stubb’s

Posted by teibs On May - 16 - 2009

tvotr 300x168 TV on the Radio @ Stubbs@ZackTeibloom TV on the Radio has a crisp, clear sound on their albums. A haunting, melodic sound. Unfortunately that sound didn’t come across tonight, due to a bad mix at Stubb’s.

They opened the show with “Dirty Whirlwind,” which is a perfect description of what was coming through the speakers. I figured they’d find a way to cut some of the bass out of the mix it was dominating and smooth out the pockets of distortion, but it never really happened. It wasn’t bad enough to ruin the concert, but it was pretty noticeable. Read the rest of this entry »

blink 300x200 Blink 182s Comeback Performance and 2009 Summer Tour Schedule @ZackTeiblom Blink 182 is all the way back. The power-punk trio performed last night for the first time in four years as a surprise guest at a T-Mobile Sidekick private Hollywood show.

The band played a quick three-song set, opening with “Rock Show” and finishing up with “The Feeling” and “Dammit.”

Blink makes their official comeback Tuesday night on Jay Leno and goes on tour with a schedule just released. Blink recruited Fall Out Boy to open the tour for 2/3 of the dates and Weezer for the other third. If Weezer is on the bill in Chicago, I’ll be there in a heartbeat. If it’s Fall Out Boy, have fun Matt.

American Idol Top 3 Results Show

Posted by shore On May - 13 - 2009

adamlambert3 American Idol Top 3 Results Show @AndyShore This is really the first week in a long time that I have absolutely no idea who could go home tonight. Last week Danny Gokey and Kris Allen were much worse than Adam Lambert, but Adam was the one in the bottom three. All three of them are in the bottom three today (that’s not a very glass half full perspective). I have no idea how they’re going to fill a full hour today. Seacrest has a lot of messing around with the three of them to do. Read the rest of this entry »

Dave Matthews Band Live Broadcast

Posted by shore On May - 13 - 2009

dmbfuse Dave Matthews Band Live Broadcast @AndyShore Anyone that has seen Dave Matthews Band perform in the last year or so can tell you how great the current line-up sounds. Adding Jeff Coffin on sax, Rashawn Ross on trumpet and Tim Reynolds on lead guitar has provided Dave’s songs with their best vehicle yet to drive his live show.

There should be no excuse not to want to see him now. Especially since Fuse TV will be doing a live broadcast June 1st at 9P/8C  from DMB’s sold out show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Read the rest of this entry »

American Idol Top 3 Perform

Posted by shore On May - 12 - 2009

dannygokey3 American Idol Top 3 Perform @AndyShore Tonight we have to sit through extensive montages of the top three contestants’ grand returns home. The payoff is two performances from each of the remaining contestants. One song is the contestants choice. The other performance is the judge’s pick.

It’s a good way of measuring what kind of music the judges think the contestants could record versus the opinion of the contestants. Congratulations American Idol on your 300th episode. Do TV shows have birthdays? Read the rest of this entry »

The United States of Theresa

Posted by teibs On May - 12 - 2009

theresaz 300x190 The United States of Theresa@ZackTeibloom Theresa Andersson is a one-woman force on stage, but don’t forget about her alter egos, The Kitchenettes. Much like the protagonist of Diablo Cody’s wonderful Showtime show, “The United States of Tara,” Theresa has developed multiple personalities.

The difference is that on the show, Tara has multiple personalities to hide from a trauma. Theresa Andersson just needs back-up singers. Read the rest of this entry »

Successful Crash #15: The Mohawk backdoor slider

Posted by teibs On May - 12 - 2009

mohawk5 Successful Crash #15: The Mohawk backdoor slider@ZackTeibloom To complete my first two-crash night, I had to go back to The Mohawk, the site of my first Austin crash.

I’m a big fan of this venue. Like many Austin venues it has multiple stages, my favorite being the outdoor one with a large overhang balcony.

Mohawk has 4 doors. The back side door is the one you want to focus on. If you’re facing the main entrance, it’s the first door, about 20 feet to your right. There is no handle on the outside, but when someone leaves through that door, it couldn’t be easier to sidle your way in.

It’s rare that someone working the venue is anywhere near the door and it lets you in by the inside stage, dead center in the back. @Racas held the door when someone left for a cigarette and @Mariheyya and I waltzed right in.

Successful Crash #14: Birds, Fly Away

Posted by teibs On May - 10 - 2009

saxon 300x163 Successful Crash #14: Birds, Fly Away@ZackTeibloom If I had been flying solo, it would have been a one-move crash. Fortunately (for company) and unfortunately, (for making an easy crash) I had two accomplices on this crash so it took a while.

We came into the crash the best way I know how: with zero dollars in our pockets. Nothing motivates a crash better than the desperation of having to. Read the rest of this entry »

Summer Camp Schedule

Posted by shore On May - 8 - 2009

moe 01 300x200 Summer Camp Schedule @AndyShore With Summer Camp merely a few weeks away, I was shocked yesterday to see that the Bonnaroo schedule had been released before Summer Camp. A day later, here it is. Let me be one of the first to tip my cap to Jay Goldberg’s people for a job well done. Few festivals have done such a good job avoiding major conflicts, and spreading the best acts throughout the day. Read the rest of this entry »
