@ZackTeibloom First, we’d like to say a big thank you to Buzz Corps and the HP DV2 for sponsoring this contest.
The NBA Finals teams are set and we’ve got three competitors for the crown of song of the NBA Finals.
In looking at the songs, we wanted one that had a chorus you could easily put with game highlights, a song that got us excited about basketball and something that didn’t completely suck. We kind of found one.
The favorite (Lakers): Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow”
Much like the Lakers, The Black Eyed Peas are no stranger to the NBA finals. Their PG version of “Let’s Get Retarded in Here,” re-named “Let’s Get it Started in Here” was the song of the 2004 NBA playoffs. The Lakers were in that finals as well, but fell to the Pistons. They’re a heavy favorite to pull it out this year?
The (Magic) Underdog: The Grouch “Never Die”
To be honest, I’d never heard this song until the contest. It’s a pretty solid hip-hop song, but I can’t pick apart much from the chorus that would work for the commercial, except the “Never Die” refrain. Much like the Magic, it’s hard to see how it could win, but it’s made it this far.
The Past Champion (Spurs): Fort Minor “Remember the Name”
When Michelle entered this song in the contest, it felt almost too perfect. I couldn’t believe the girl I was friends with who liked sports the least had a chance to win the contest. Then Andy reminded me this song has already been the song of the NBA. I did research. It was the song of the playoffs in 2006 and 2007 and the NBA draft in 2008. That’s enough from you, Spurs. Let’s move on.
The verdict:
We’re going “Boom, Boom, Pow” for the win. It’s easiest to cut to NBA footage. You pretty much need a “Boom, Boom, Boom” to match a highlight reel of Superman dunks. Is this a better song than Kanye’s “Amazing?” I’m not so sure. I thought it would be easy for a new King to the thrown to come in and waltz through the finals (Lebron) but that’s kind of how this playoffs went. We have to settle for Black Eyed Peas.
Yes, Hagel, you won the contest. Congratulations.

I entered the Grouch song. I knew the verses weren’t super commercial friendly, but I wanted to suggest something that wasn’t main stream. Congrats to the winner and thanks for the opportunity!
