Bonnaroo Preview

bonnaroo1@Zack Teibloom It’s 5 a.m., the night before the night before Bonnaroo, but it’s Festival eve for me. I drive to Memphis tomorrow to meet up with Laura, the top female prospect of Festival Crashers beta class before making a break for Festival Grounds Thursday morning.

I’m half packed, half asleep and have about half as much money as I’ll need for gas for this trip. In my mind, I’m already back at Centeroo, talking about how I love Dr. Seuss, but only his rhyming stuff.

Unfortunately I can only stay for Thursday and Friday before heading up to Jason’s wedding, but I do have a vision of coming back to the fest Sunday night for Phish. I figure I’ll kill two birds with one stone on that one. See the extra Phish show and have a place to sleep Sunday night. Something tells me I’m not going to want to drive 16 hours straight to Austin from Indy after the next few days.

Enough jibber jabber, let’s get to the preview:

Thursday is a tease of what’s to come, with the delectable Passion Pit as the big stand-out but Friday is the crux of the festival. When I knew Friday would be my only day of Festivaling, I prayed it would be a stacked day. It has, hands down, the best one-day line-up I’ve ever seen this side of Woodstock. I thought the Bonnaroo 2007 one-day stage set-up of Neville Brothers, Elvis Costello, Beck, Radiohead, was unbeatable. Then the schedule came out and I…

  • 12:45 Gomez
  • 2:45 Animal Collective
  • 3:15 Grace Potter
  • 3:45 Galactic w/ Trombone Shorty
  • 4:45 Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • 4:45 Santigold
  • 5:00 Grizzly Bear
  • 6:00 Al Green
  • 6:45 TV on the Radio
  • 8:30 Beastie Boys
  • 8:45 David Byrne
  • 11:00 Phish
  • 2:15 Girl Talk

The only major dilemna is how much time to spend at David Byrne vs. Beastie Boys. I’ll just have to start at Beasties and feel it out. I hope my legs carry me to as many of these shows as possible and I have enough energy to be dancing to Girl Talk until 3:45 a.m. I gotta get on the road, but I’ll be back tomorrow from the festival.

  1. Rob Said,

Hockey! Go see Hockey. You have to remember that Bonnaroo is really about discovering music not checking off bands like a to do list. For me, the best moments at Bonnaroo have always been the shows I didn’t expect.

    GO SEE HOCKEY!!!!!!!!

Starting at Beasties vs Byrne? Seriously??? That man is on fire. I’m begging you to reconsider.
