passionpit2@ZackTeibloom Vampire Weekend is to 2008 as Passion Pit is to 2009. Indie-rock band featuring a high pitched singer, prominent keyboard and synth, barely drinking age.

Like Vampire Weekend, they were almost dangerously hyped-up befpre their debut and somehow exceeded expectations getting above an 8 on Pitchfork and landing a Thursday night spot at Bonnaroo.

A week after a sold-out raucous dance party in Austin, Passion Pit brought the same intensity to a packed tent of wet, crowd-surfing, hopping Festival goers.

Even having seen almost the identical set a week ago, it felt fresh and exciting. Their layered synths and keyboards, rapid drumming drive the songs as songs that sound like they”d be dull, like “Sleepy Head” only fueled the dancing.

“The Reeling” was the highlight, as lead singer Michael Angelakos got off his keyboard, stood up and led a call and response that they overwhelmingly knew without a cue: “Look at me, oh, look at me is this the way I’ll always be?” he asked “Oh, no!” “Oh, no!” we sang back.

Oh, yes.
