@AndyShore In a weekend that featured a plethora of tributes to Michael Jackson at Rothbury 2009, Gov’t Mule paid homage to several music legends. Originals were a rarity during Gov’t Mule’s early evening set. They opened with “Brand New Angel,” but segued into a slew of covers.
First Led Zeppelin got their due with “I Can’t Quit You Baby”and “How Many More Times.” Next it was Stevie Wonder, with the second cover of the weekend of “Higher Ground” (String Cheese Incident encored with it). Then, since Warren Haynes hadn’t played it the night before with the Dead, they played “Sugaree.”
As if those covers weren’t enough, Haynes welcomed the lovely Grace Potter to the stage for “Ohio.” The soulful voice of Haynes blended splendidly with that of Potter’s for a wonderful take on the CSNY tune. Haynes then voiced his tribute to the King of Pop before going into Nirvana’s “All Apologies.”
