The Killers @ Lollapalooza

thekillerslolla @AndyShore The Killers were an important band for me this weekend. They’ve always been a band that I enjoy, and had not been that impressed with any of the headliners so far all weekend. Sure that may have something to do with having to take off four songs in to Kings of Leon on Friday night. A great set from the Killers Sunday night could be enough to save Lollapalooza for me. I needed something that I could put on the level with Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine and Kanye West from 2008.

Enter the Killers. Opening the show with “Human,” one of their bigger hits of the new album, I was already impressed. Lead singer Brandon Flowers commands the stage, even if his feathers have long past stayed their welcome. The light show is out of this world. The crowd loses themselves in the spectacle of a rock show that is the Killers. During “Somebody Told Me,” I headed off into the crowd to find @MattSilver.

It turns out, I couldn’t have asked for a better band to close out my Lollapalooza 2009. Flowers’ voice soars over the crowd, never sounding strained and hitting all his notes. The band rocks enough to keep you dancing, with countless hits to choose from. “Smile Like You Mean It,” “Spaceman” and “Mr. Brightside” drew big reactions from the crowd.

With time to spare, the crowd cheered the Killers back on stage for an encore. “Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” sounded good, but they needed something stronger to close Lollapalooza with. “When You Were Young” was just that. Thinking about it makes me want to pop in Guitar Hero and play through the song. Between Vampire Weekend, Lou Reed, MSTRKRFT and the Killers was a great Sunday to close an overall excellent Lollapalooza 2009.
