davemasonravinia @AndyShore If you frequent these parts, you should know by now that I am a huge fan of Traffic. The glowing reviews of Steve Winwood at the United Center and Mile High as well as the Eric Clapton and Winwood show at the UC should speak for themselves. I didn’t know at the time my dad asked me if I wanted to go see Loggins & Messina at Ravinia, that Dave Mason was the opening act. I didn’t find out until we got there. What a pleasant surprise that was. A few Jack and Coke’s and some delicious BBQ later, I was ready for some rock.

It was a short set, packed with hits. From his solo career, to his Traffic greats and a choice cover he sounded great on every tune. The final three songs was the combo that lead to the knockout. First it was “Dear Mr. Fantasy.” It’s always going to be different without Winwood singing, his guitar soared on the solo. Next up it was “All Along the Watchtower” to get all the baby boomers into Ravinia dance mode. The close his set, Mason invited Kenny Loggins to the stage for “Feelin’ Alright,” which I learned that night that Mason originally penned. It was so great, I almost wished Mason was the headliner.
