@AndyShore One of the things that both ACL and Lollapalooza do well is their kids area. Both festivals make sure there are plenty activities for the little ones, which includes a stage with acts dedicated to the young and young at heart (Incidentally, the stage is the only part the adults get to enjoy, as Zack got denied both entrance in a contest to win a children’s sized guitar and a henna tattoo*). I caught Jeff Tweedy at the Kidz Stage at Lollapalooza 2008, and enjoyed the intimate acoustic performance. This year at ACL, Zack and I headed over the the Austin Kiddie Limits stage to see what Paul Green’s School of Rock All Stars would have in store.
The rotating cast of musicians are half the age of the rest of the performers at the festival, and in some cases, twice as talented. Trading vocals, instruments and licks the group put on a short, but rocking set of classic rock covers. “Hot For Teacher” featured pounding drums and shredding guitars, and “Bold of Love” and “Woodstock” had both Zack and I singing along to every word. The 20 minute set was a nice break from the sun, and certainly left me with a smile on my face.
