@AndyShore With Paul Green’s School of Rock All Stars playing a short set, and 15 minutes to kill before Sara Watkins took the stage, Zack and I headed to the Wildflower Center stage to catch a bit of the Gospel Silvertones. Here is usually where I would make the obligatory joke about being a Jew that has the spirit of a soul child burning inside of me, but I’m gonna leave that up to you (leave it in the comments if it’s particularly funny). There was some call and response going on as we walked up to the front of the stage, and I immediately started questioning whether I had missed my true calling to be in a gospel choir.
The Gospel Silvertones feature four unbelievable voices, backed by guitar, bass and drums that match the quality of the voices in front of them. I sang along when called upon, only stopping short of praising Jesus as my Lord and savior. The religious content of the music, had me contemplating the hilarious idea what a Jewish gospel band might sound and look like. I didn’t have much time to develop that one, as it was soon time to check out Sara Watkins.
