@ZackTeibloom For the first time in over 20 years of touring, Phish is playing an all acoustic set Sunday at noon. Curious minds want to know: What are they gonna play? Will it be the acoustic songs we know well or will Trey re-work some typically electric songs?
As magical as Trey is sending shivers down your spine on electric, there’s something comforting about an entire acoustic set. Especially for a noon on Sunday after a weekend of raging. Let’s just hope Trey will be half as happy as he looked on acoustic last summer at Rothbury. Here’s a “Sample…”
Our best guess at how this set will unfold is from the Trey/Mike acoustic show Andy and I were lucky enough to catch last year at Rothbury. It was the first time Trey had been on stage in over a year and with just an acoustic guitar and occasional help from Mike, he was back with a beaming smile. Here are a few videos from the show and a list of obvious acoustic choices. What do you hope to see? Any ideas on curveballs?
“Backwards down the Number Line”
“Chalkdust Torture”
“Sample in a Jar”
If you were to make an acoustic set Bingo Card, I’d put these on spots.
- Waste
- Dirt
- Talk
- farmhouse
- train song
- swept away
- squirming coil
- poor heart
- joy
- Billy Breathes
- sleep song
- chalkdust torture
- silent in the morning
- anything but me
- secret smile
- water in the sky
- wading in the velvet sea

I would like to add “Free” to this conversation. Any jew that had the opportunity to see Dave & Steve bust out this gem on Monday nights at the White Horse knows what I’m talking about.
