He’s way ahead of his time, has an unmatched energy and is doing it harder and better than anyone in his genre. If there really is anyone in his genre. He plays his backing tracks recorded in his home studio, loaded onto his iPod and sings, dances in the crowd, and slays his electric guitar for a full-on rock dance party. There’s only one Neiliyo. Except tonight.

Neiliyo’s been playing everything from backyard slip ‘n’ slide birthday parties to regular gigs at Beauty Bar to the finals of a contest to play at Lollapalooza this year, where he made an appearance. It’s hard to say any Neiliyo show is a breakout show, but the Cherry Peel performance tonight has that potential. Come with energy for the 12:30 a.m. show and come as Neiliyo. The “Me-J” posted this video on how to pull it off:

Shorts: White’s good, pink’s better. The brighter the better.

Oxfords: Yellow, aqua blue, indigo, all great colors. Once again, the brighter the better.

The Boat shoes: “These you got a little bit of room to play around. Old school brown or candy red. One of my faves, but it’s a little flashy.”

Shades: “I suggest retro super futures, Oakley’s, anything that’s really phat. “Now, I’ve never worn Ray Bans personally, though a lot of people think I have…”

Something Neiliyo forgot: He usually has a towel draped around himself, because when a Neiliyo show is in full swing, there’s gonna be a lot of sweating.

Who knows how many people have boat shoes, pink shorts and a sweat towel laying around ready for a Neiliyo costume, but let’s hope there’s an army of Neiliyo’s having a sweaty dance party tonight at Mohawk.

We’re gonna be hearing some brand new jams tonight. I had the priviledge of sitting in Neiliyo’s kitchen/living room/recording studio as he recorded some new material, singing “Baby, wanna get with you, lover child” into his T-Pain iPhone app. It felt like a hit.

Come tonight dressed as Neiliyo. Be able to say “I was Neiliyo for Halloween before you even heard of him.” It’s the highest level of indie-rock douchebaggery ever, but it’s pretty damn funny. And Neiliyo is kind of the man.
