Flogging Molly interview/performance at ACL from Roxwell

Posted by teibs On October - 13 - 2009

flogging 300x184 Flogging Molly interview/performance at ACL from Roxwell@ZackTeibloom Flogging Molly was one of the shows I was most annoyed at myself for missing at ACL this year. It takes a raucous band to make it worth standing in the rain (sorry Bon Iver) and Flogging Molly’s American Celtic brand of punk is perfect for pounding whiskey in the rain.

I had to watch from Chris’ room on Hulu as I pounded a Four Loco. Check out the interview/performance from ACL. I suggest having something with at least a 60 proof around. If you’re not drunk enough to wildly sing chorus’ you’re just learning as the song goes, your not drunk enough. Get wild.

Phoenix Interview/performance at ACL from Roxwel

Posted by teibs On October - 13 - 2009

phoenixz Phoenix Interview/performance at ACL from Roxwel@ZackTeibloom Our friends at Roxwel.com put together some stellar artist interviews/performance packages from ACL and agreed to share them with us. Here’s their Phoenix package, my favorite show of ACL ’09.

From my review: “The scarf-clad, jacket-wearing French men were a ball of energy for the entire hour, weaving in gems from the new album like “Fences” and “lasso” with older hits “Run Run Run” and “If I Ever Feel Better.” I’ve had friends try to classify them as “just one of those indie” bands whose songs all sound the same, but listen to more than just the singles. “Love Like a Sunset” is a nearly 8-minute movement Floyd-ian movement that takes almost 6 minutes to get to the words. They’re what happens when those indie-bands grow up.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Wildest Things of All

Posted by teibs On October - 8 - 2009

wildthings1 300x250 The Wildest Things of All @ZackTeibloom I practically had to beg you to enter this contest, but you finally came up with some good stories. It came down to two naked festival-goers. How appropriate. We had an appearance from Ronnie Woo Woo, a shoeless wonder and one stranger sent in this video, which is moderately funny but her explanation was lame.

Sami sent in a story of the tornado at Summer Camp ’06, but there was no wild thing. Just a rambling mess of a story of the tornado-ravaged festival that didn’t hold a candle to my sister’s legendary tale of the same festival*. Here’s the thing. Sami can’t write about the wild things. She is a wild thing. Let’s get it on: Read the rest of this entry »

Shit Show Saturday @ ACL

Posted by teibs On October - 7 - 2009

shitshow 300x215 Shit Show Saturday @ ACL@ZackTeibloom I want to remember this day. I want to remember the things I didn’t remember the next morning. No, it was more than that. I couldn’t even process them as they were going on. It was a 22+ hour shit show that started with 5:20 a.m. McDonald’s Breakfast and ended with singing Pinkerton into a mini basketball hoop at 3:45 a.m. as I struggled to remain on my feet. In between? I’m gonna try to piece it together. Read the rest of this entry »

Fake Media Pass: A Guest Crash at ACL

Posted by teibs On October - 6 - 2009

media 300x225 Fake Media Pass: A Guest Crash at ACLEven though Andy and I crashed JazzFest seven times between us, ACL will go down as the best crashed festival of the season. My roommate crashed, I snuck @chrisinaustin in even though he broke my wristband forcing me to crash two days and, most impressively, @candabus and @doctorcollins created media passes. A whole new level of crashing we hadn’t attempted yet. We needed @candabus to tell us how the big crash went down.

@Candabus As the weeks to ACL approached, I felt like a college freshman at Christmas. I knew I should be excited, and I am a little, but something just didn’t feel right this year. My friends told me it was because I didn’t have the media pass I was wishing for, but I also sensed that the lineup just couldn’t compare to 2008. Read the rest of this entry »

Festival Crashers Do ACL

Posted by shore On October - 5 - 2009

aclback 300x192 Festival Crashers Do ACL@AndyShore ACL 2008 was my favorite festival of last season, and I could not wait to get back for another year. Despite only being in my new digs in LA for a week, I had to come see what ACL 2009 would have in store. Zack was so excited to get to the festival, that we arrived before 10:30 on Friday. While I sat down to write an e-mail, Zack headed in to listen to Andrew Bird’s sound check. With time to kill, we found a full Beatles Rock Band set up and put on a little show of our own. Zack and I channeled our inner John and Paul, while taking on the responsibilities of both playing and singing at the same time. Read the rest of this entry »

Girl Talk head first in mud at ACL

Posted by teibs On October - 5 - 2009

mud 300x232 Girl Talk head first in mud at ACL@ZackTeibloom After I picked my jaw up off the floor at The Dead Weather, I pretended I was on cross country ski’s and slid my way across the muddy mess that was Zilker Park and slid over to Girl Talk. I tried meeting up with a couple friends, but reception was weak and if there’s ever a good time to be single, it’s at a Girl Talk show. Read the rest of this entry »

The Dead Weather at ACL

Posted by teibs On October - 5 - 2009

jwacl 300x213 The Dead Weather at ACL@ZackTeibloom Jack White may have gotten his start on drums, and he’s no slouch at the kit, but an electric guitar needs to be in his hands at all times. The Dead Weather has capable guitar players that produce a rich, full sound with Dean Fertita on lead and Jack Lawrence on bass with Alison Mossheart even playing on a couple songs, but when JWIII picked up the axe for closer “Will There Be Enough Water*,” a strong rock band turned world class. My jaw dropped. Read the rest of this entry »

Pearl Jam @ ACL

Posted by shore On October - 5 - 2009

pearljamacl Pearl Jam @ ACL @AndyShore One of my favorite parts of a music festival is the people. You’ve got tens of thousands of people, from all walks of life, enjoying the same break from reality. Making friends with the people around you during a show is always a good time. You hear where they come from, why they love that particular band and often how much debauchery they’ve partaken in. I met a group of three 40-somethings before Pearl Jam began on Sunday, one of which was worried that Pearl Jam would not live up to expectations. I ensured her that in the two times I had seen them in the last year or so, they had only exceeded my expectations. By the time Pearl Jam had hit full stride Sunday night, she agreed with me. Arctic Monkeys @ ACL

Posted by shore On October - 5 - 2009

arcticmonkeysacl Arctic Monkeys @ ACL @AndyShore Zilker Park had been transformed into a complete and total mud pit that smelled like the zoo, after a very rainy Saturday at ACL. The rain held out on Sunday, but it was as hot and muggy as could be. Plus, getting from stage to stage was a delicate balancing act as everyone trudged through the thick mud. The closer you pushed to a stage, the muddier it got. Luckily, Zack and I found a decent spot with some sort of solid ground to check out the Arctic Monkeys. Read the rest of this entry »
