Phish day 2 set 3

Posted by shore On November - 3 - 2009

phishhalloween Phish day 2 set 3 @AndyShore Like I said before, it didn’t matter what Phish played during their third set of Halloween. It was already my favorite Phish show ever. Sure, I may be totally biased. Exile on Main Street is in my top-5 favorite albums of all time. Regardless, my brain could barely process that there was still another set of Phish to come. At this point in my evening and weekend, my energy had been mostly sapped. It took the heavy hitting third set to keep me on my feet. Read the rest of this entry »

BFFL: Vampire Weekend and Festival Crashers

Posted by shore On November - 3 - 2009

@AndyShore Today has been a long day of recovery from Phish Festival 8. It was a truly incredible weekend, and one I will finish telling you all about tomorrow. Being sleep deprived, and having to fight LA traffic to get two friends to the airport today made me rather unproductive. At some point this afternoon, I saw that the Ice Cream Man tweeted asking for links for the Phish shows. I forwarded them to him, having just been sent the download links myself. That’s where this story gets interesting. Read the rest of this entry »

Phish Festival 8 Day 2 Set 1

Posted by teibs On November - 1 - 2009

phishday Phish Festival 8 Day 2 Set 1@AndyShore Set one on Halloween was an afternoon set. Some fans were already out in costume, but the energy level hadn’t hit it’s max yet. We found ourselves a spot just to the side of the soundboard and settled in. Costume and people watching proved to be an excellent way to pass the time. At least two Falcon the balloon boys mosied on by and a green man was standing just in front of us.

The lengthy afternoon set featured several great sing-a-longs and music to enjoy the sunshine in. “Sample in a Jar” opened things off and made way to “Divided Sky.” Trey, speaking to the crowd for the first time of the weekend, told the fans it had been a while since they got to play on a lawn. Cue Page for “Lawn Boy.”

“Bathtub Gin,” “Runaway Jim” and “Possum” were all fan favorites and high energy points of the set. It was hot, but the music was too good for the heat to get to anyone. “Run Like an Antelope” closed out the set, as a group dressed as antelopes walked past us. A great start to the day, indeed.

Phish Exile on Main St. at Festival 8

Posted by teibs On November - 1 - 2009

setlist Phish Exile on Main St. at Festival 8@AndyShore It was apparent Phish was set to play Exile on Main Street by the time we awoke on Saturday. Our neighbors came back from the concert area with a Playbill and instantly I wanted it to be time for the Halloween set. Horn section, Sharon Jones and Shaunda Williams on back up vox, the whole shlamazel.

A video that began with “Thriller” turned into a whole mashup of the albums, songs and videos involved with the original 99 albums. “Rocks Off” kicked off Phish’s costume, with the horns already adding an exciting element. When Jones and Williams joined everyone in stage for “Tumbling Dice” a few songs later, it was clear we were in for a special evening.

The peak of the set was the fan familiar “Loving Cup.” With the added horns and vocals, it may have been the best version of that song Phish has ever played. The rest of the set is a blur of excitement and awesomeness.

Though some of the set only had the four members of Phish, side four heavily featured the horns and back up vocals. They especially shone bright during the breakdown in “Shine a Light.” Trey just stopped what he was doing to turn around and watch them do their thing, smiling ear to ear all the while. By the time the last notes of “Soul Survivor” rang out, it wouldn’t matter what Phish played in the third set. It was already my favorite Phish show of all time.
