@ZackTeibloom I had the pleasure of seeing a rare 35 MM screening of the 1973 concert film “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” Monday night at the Alamo Drafthouse. After a wildly successful world tour, Bowie comes back to London for his victory lap show, where he puts on a wild, sexually charged performance. You see the full concert with more make-up and costume changes than a Lady Gaga show, but with the force of Mick Ronson’s lead guitar playing, a full backing band, wildly delirious British fans and Bowie’s diverse catalog fueling a top-notch rock show. The film captivated me as a Bowie fan and rock historian, but if you want to make it even better, I invented a drinking game. And luckily for you, there’s one more showing of the concert Wednesday night at 9:45 p.m. Get tickets here! Here’s the game:
Ziggy Stardust Drinking Game
(Note: If you’d rather it be a betting game, come with 15 dollar bills each and a hat. Start with one person with the hat. Every time one of the things on the list happens, put a dollar in the hat and pass it on. Whoever has the hat when the movie ends, gets all the money.)
Take a sip every time:
- Bowie has an outfit change
- You can’t understand what someone says back stage
- You see a member of The Beatles
- Bowie smiles and you realize how freakish his cheek bones are
Take two sips every time:
- Mick Ronson blows your mind with a guitar solo
- You question Bowie’s sexuality
- Bowie name-drops another glam-rocker
- Bowie has on different earrings
Finish your drink and look away awkwardly every time:
- Bowie’s junk is shoved in your face
- You see more than 25% of Bowie’s ass
- You feel more uncomfortable than Ringo when Bowie is in tight-ie white-ies
