@AndyShore This is the final match-up of round 2. I believe that Zack is still claiming to be the New Orleans Saints (one loss), and it seems that J-Ho is right there with him. I would be winning, if it wasn’t for @MattSilver actually having something to do when “Good Girl Go Bad” was up in round one. He would have had his minions of 13 year-old girls all over that vote. Shucks. As for today’s match-up, we see Flo Rida’s “Right Round” going up against Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face.” This is the second straight day for Gaga on the bracket. It looks like Jay-Z and Alicia Keys may take her down, but we’ll see if she has what it takes to withstand Flo Rida. Read the rest of this entry »

“Right Round” vs. “Poker Face” (Round 2)
The Sing Off – Finale
@AndyShore The finale of The Sing-Off already taught me one thing. Getting the West Coast feed on TV means having to go dark on twitter and Facebook to avoid spoilers. I did that successfully tonight, and am anxious to see who will win the first ever season of The Sing-Off. Nota should be the team to beat tonight. They have proven to be the most talented and deepest group of the bunch. The Beelzebubs will challenge them, and I happen to like their song selection more than Nota’s. Tonight I assume I’ll be making fun of the judges mostly, since most of the groups I have been making fun of have gone home. Read the rest of this entry »
“Empire State of Mind” vs “Paparazzi” (Round 2)
@ZackTeibloom We’ve got an east coast-west coast battle going down here. It’s the New York state of mind against the Paparazzi obsessed L.A. Will it be the freaky Lady Gaga moving onto the final four with “Paparazzi” even though “Pokerface” is still alive? Or will Jigga man take over more than the east coast and create a national state of mind. He killed auto-tune.* I think he can take out Gaga. Read the rest of this entry »
Successful Crash #25: Phoenix at La Zona Rosa
@ZackTeibloom Finding parking has been more of an issue than actually crashing a show in Austin lately, but I had a pit in my stomach all afternoon. I couldn’t tell if it was from the upcoming crash of a sold out Phoenix show or from having to face Manning/Addai in fantasy playoffs. I’ll have a harder time coming back from the 34 points Manning put up than I did on this crash.* I worked 11-8 instead of 3-midnight so I could get there in time for the opening bands, White Denim and Hockey.
I drove around for ten minutes looking for a spot and settled on one where I was half parked illegally with the ass of my car in a tow zone. I decided it was safe enough and packed a sandwich. Just as I finished packing it, a car two spots ahead of me pulled out of a legal spot, I ate the sandwich and headed to the venue. This felt like a good sign. As I walked up, a clearly cold gentleman asked if I had a ticket and that he’d offer me $60 for it. I want to make it clear that usually a scalper is out there offering you a ticket for $60, which he won’t get, but this guy wanted to pay $60. I told him I didn’t have a ticket and he said, “Good luck, I’ve been out here for over an hour and there’s nothing.” “Don’t worry about it. I do this all the time. I’m the Festival Crasher.” Read the rest of this entry »
“Blame It” vs “Birthday Sex” (Round 2)
@AndyShore Today’s round two match-up features the auto-tuned one-two punch of Jamie Foxx and T-Pain (wow that’s a lot of hyphens) going toe-to-toe with Jeremih, who just wants everybody to get some on their birthday. “Blame It” was catchy enough to land Foxx a performance on American Idol, despite the fact he auto-tuned the whole performance for a singing competition. “Birthday Sex” was catchy enough to merit Jeremih replacing the multiple-hit-having Drake at the LXM Pro event. Which one will advance to the next round? Read the rest of this entry »
Phoenix closes tour emphatically in Austin*
@ZackTeibloom You might want to hold off on your best-of 2009 lists until we actually finish the year. I’ve seen a few “best concerts of ’09″ lists that lean heavily on tour openers,** but there’s something to be said for tour enders. With nothing coming up, the band holds nothing back. They’ll take a longer encore. Run out into the crowd. Try alternate breakdowns. Let you up on stage. They’ll sing the chorus of their hit song over and over and over from the rafters. And, if it’s Phoenix, they’ll do it all with that “Really? You like us this much?!” genuine gratitude you won’t see from anyone not named Regina. Read the rest of this entry »
Summer Camp 2010 Line-up
@AndyShore Sing it with me everybody! “It’s the most wonderful tiiiiiiiime of the yearrrrr.” No not the holiday season. Festival line-ups are being announced! That’s better than Chanukah for these Festival Crashers. Jazz Fest announced their mind boggling line-up earlier in the week, and Summer Camp Music Festival followed suit today. Summer Camp is the first music festival I ever attended, and is also my most attended festival. I busted my ankle the week before Summer Camp last year, and still asked my doctor if I could go after he told me I needed surgery. The line-up so far is pretty obvious, but has me excited for festival season. Read the rest of this entry »
Round 1 Catchiest Song Contest Wrap-up
@ZackTeibloom Cinderella stayed home this year. All the top seeds moved on except for a slight upset of “Birthday Sex” over “We Made You.” I’d like to think that I swung that upset with my preposterous morning after pill argument and comeback rule, but odds are you’re just sick of Eminem. Unless you followed your indie-rock heart, you did quite well in round 1 (sorry, Laura and Joanne.)
Don’t fret, though. Last year Zelin went 6/8 in the first round and still won it all, so there’s hope for almost all of you. Points are worth one point in round one, so look for your name* and the score. Points double next round, so make sure to vote, and please spread the word. I gotta say, it would be nice to see a few more tweets and Facebook status updates alerting people to vote. How about this: We’ll throw in a prize to whoever hypes the contest the best in the next couple weeks. And we’ll make it a good one… Read the rest of this entry »
“Party in the USA” vs. “Boom Boom Pow”
@ZackTeibloom Ahh, the Elite 8. No slouches in this bracket. We’ve got a monster match-up to kick off round two with #1 overall seed Miley looking trying to have a little “Party in the USA” as perennial hit-makers Black Eyed Peas go “Boom Boom Pow.” So who do you go for here? They’re both heavily manufactured and easy to dance to, but good luck singing along and reaching those Miley and Fergie high notes. I’m excited to see who you think is the catchiest and who’s “so 2008.” @AndyShore For the record, Zack has tried his best to avoid his lyrical puns. Until now. BUSTED! Read the rest of this entry »
The Sing Off – Superstar Medley, Judges’ Challenge & Songs of Hope
@AndyShore Last night’s episode of the Sing-Off continued to amuse and impress me. Nota and the Beelzebubs are clearly the teams to beat, with the SoCals being the guilty pleasure team I don’t want to admit I’m rooting for. Last night Noteworthy was sent home, marking an end to my Mormom jokes. Don’t fret, there’s still plenty to make fun of in this show. Nicole Scherzinger is still a younger more attractive version of Paula Abdul, Nick Lachey is still years past relevancy and we’re all still watching a singing competition.
