@AndyShore I thought there was no TV last night due to the President’s State of the Union. Apparently not even the President can stop NPH. He was the guest judge for last night’s Idol auditions. That, or FOX didn’t care what the President had to say. They must not have made a drinking game out of how many times Biden and Pelosi stand up. I’m not going to “live” blog the episdoe, since this is the morning after. Instead I will do a round-up of the best and worst of the episode, along with any other thoughts I may have.
-Lloyd “Big Successexy”Thomas fumbled a picture of his two little girls but not his audition. Also laughed at the childlike way he said “A Billion!” after Randy told him the percent yes he was going to Hollywood.
-Kimberly Carver is singing an original. She’s hitting the notes, but has a slight volume control issue. She’s also the first to call NPH “Doogie Howser.” Bonus points.
-The Barney Girl has a good voice, but left Kara asking, “who cries as a dominatrix?”
-Dave Pittman has Tourettes that doesn’t affect him when he sings. He’s crooning Sam Cooke quite well. He doesn’t have swearing Tourettes, so he won’t be as funny as the mostly blind Scott McIntyre trying to dance last season.
-Todrick Hall wrote a song about himself auditioning. He’s as good as his song is funny. He rhymed something about Simon being a bump on a log, with asking Randy what he had to do to be his Dawg.
-Maegan Wright had a whole preview with her younger brother, who I thought was deaf. Turns out he just talks with his hands a lot. She’s going to Hollywood.
-Christian Spear is a 16-year-old cancer survivor. She’s got a good, but not great voice. Her performance drew a creepy look from Joe Jonas, and the first words I recall him speaking.
-Dexter just did the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen not once, but five times. I hope that FOX never shows him wink again. Dexter just lisped through his performance.
-Vanessa Johnston singing “At Last.” Simon called her what his nightmares look and sound like.
Best of NPH:
-NPH started off strong, criticizing the sign that Julie K. brought in because she ran out of room and smushed her last name in there. He also added that her singing was “just annoying.”
-“If they can’t handle that heat… that kitchen is a broiler.”
-The Barney Girl gave NPH the creeps singing the Barney song while dressed in dominatrix clothing and holding a whip. He also said he knew he remembered her from somewhere…and called her a dirty little girl.
