sumcamptwentyten Summer Camp 2010 Preview@AndyShore Summer Camp music festival will always have a special place in my heart. It was the first music festival I ever attended. It’s also the festival I’ve been to most, tied with 10klf at three times. Summer Camp isn’t a camp by your car festival. You have to haul your gear into the festival area. It’s a small festival, and the walk between stages is never more than a few minutes. Some of my favorite festival moments occurred in little ol’ Chillicothe, IL. Festival Crashers have plenty of friends going, as well as playing, the festival. We’ll be sure to relay any great stories as we hear them. Here’s a breakdown of the highlights of the three days of the festival.

Friday: Start your Friday afternoon off with moe. playing a day set on the main stage. Summer Camp began as their festial, though Umphrey’s McGee has taken over in recent years. They’re still a big reason people are there and they are certain to to ring the festival in with a bang.

I don’t know if our friend and the Hue’s own Marcus Rezak will be playing with 56 Hope Road, but we caught a mean Paul Simon cover from them last time Festival Crashers were in attendance. Added bonus if Rezak will be playing. Be sure to hurry back to the Moonshine Stage for Dumpstaphunk. Ivan Neville’s band that is so funky, they need two bass players. There’s some great bluegrass to be seen in Cornmeal and Yonder Mountain String Band, but the real party starts after that. An Umphrey’s > Gov’t Mule > Umphrey’s sandwich would surely make me jizz.in.my.pants.

Saturday: Need to shake the cobwebs on Saturday morning? Have the Hue blast them away at 11:00am on the Campfire Stage. I’d take a nap after that, but curiosity would probably find me at the Macpodz featuring Jake Cinninger. I’ve seen the Macpodz and met them a couple times. Good dudes and cool music…and Jake’s guitar speaks for itself. If you don’t go see Victor Wooten after that, @Rob_Shore and @JordanLipshutz will never speak to you again. Plus he’s quite possibly the best bass player on the planet.

ALO would be a great late afternoon set for relaxing in the grass and having a sandwich. Speaking of sandwiches…go have dinner after ALO. Nobody needs to see Slightly Stoopid. Just wait. There’s more sandwiches. The rest of the night goes Keller Williams then Umphrey’s > moe. > Umphrey’s > moe. Pretty Lights is an excellent alternate option during the first moe. set. Late night Campfire Jam with Hot Buttered Rum will certainly be a hootenanny.

Sunday: If you couldn’t stay up for the Hot Buttered Rum Campfire Jam, go see them at 1:00. Sunday afternoon is probably the part I will miss most. Umphrey’s plays, followed by Kinetix, the New Mastersounds and My Dear Disco. All four of those sets should not be missed. You can thank me later. It’s Memorial Day on Monday, so there’s no excuse for leaving early. Zappa Plays Zappa would be dinnertime for me, party time for Zack. moe. closes out the festival with two sets.

Late night shows: The New Mastersounds and moe. both throw down late night on Friday. Pretty Lights have just that, and the barn will be lit up for some candy flipping fun on Saturday night. Umphrey’s late night party to close out the festival will certainly be a highlight for all that attend.
