@AndyShore Before we saw Miike Snow, Zack said they “rocked out.” Now, don’t get me wrong. I really liked Miike Snow. I just had a different idea of rocking out in my head, with the Black Keys on deck. Leaving Miike Snow, we realized just how big the crowd was this year at ACL. It seemed more crowded than last year, even on a Friday when some attendees are still at work. No matter. We worked our way around and through and got into a decent spot early on in the Black Keys set.
We arrived at our spot just in time for “Strange Times,” my favorite song off Attack & Release. It’s made even better by the video for the song, which I discovered yesterday while looking for a Black Keys video to post in my Friday preview. If you love laser tag and/or the Black Keys, watch the video. Speaking of awesome Black Keys videos, “Tighten Up” sounded great live. Seeing them so many times in one summer, you see the same set. New material from a new album meant new set. Good things. “I Got Mine” closed out the set quite nicely, and it seemed poignant to the goings on of the day.
I happen to love the stripped down, bluesy, balls to the wall rock and roll of the Black Keys. That duo can wail. Zack and I saw them three or four times in the summer of 2008. I was excited to see them with new material to play. I didn’t realize they’d end up bringing out a couple other musicians for some of their set. The material on Brothers has other musicians and Dan and Patrick were joined on stage by a bass player and a guy on keys for a part of their set. I think I still prefer just the duo, but it was exciting to see a new look from a band I love.
