@ZackTeibloom It’s the match-up Andy and I never wanted. It feels more like a first round match-up than the deciding factor on who makes it to the finals, but here we are. Sure, Andy tried to call you a racist if you picked Black Keys and I tried to let Arcade Fire have one more shot at Broken Bells, but you picked who you wanted. If I’ve learned anything, it’s not to talk smack about any song and just tell you why I like one. Broken Bells showed us the versatility of Danger Mouse, taking a cue from Jack White and moving back behind the drum kit. The Black Keys abandoned their two-man show, moved out of The White Stripes shadow and added a couple members to beef up their sound. Also like Jack White. Why didn’t he release “Ray Bans” with Jay-Z this year? He could have taken the whole contest. But I digress. Vote for your favorite.
@AndyShore “The High Road” isn’t a song you put on to dance to, or to hype you up for anything. All songs don’t have to be that. It doesn’t rock. It is the kind of song that you put on headphones for or as cruise down the road with your windows open. That’s the feeling it gives you. If they ever make a Garden State sequel (once Natalie Portman is done being preggers), they can put this song on the OST. It’s odd to me that Zack hates on this song as much as he does (saying last round that he skips it on his 2010 contest mix). This song has more of the indie feel that he’s been all about.
@ZackTeibloom This band has matured from a poor man’s White Stripes to a band putting out better albums than anything Jack’s done this year. They’re as strong lyrically as ever and, not that they needed help, but they sound even fuller with the added members for Brothers. You could have picked any song off this impeccable album. We went with the one with the best video, but after the amount of songs they’ve had in commercials, they feel like they’re all singles. Spin ran a great feature on the band as they reveled in a slew of Grammy nominations, what it feels like to reach #1 and get the respect they’ve deserved for years. Enjoy it, boys.
