DMB @ 10klf

Posted by shore On July - 27 - 2009

dmbtenk DMB @ 10klf @Rob_Shore Dave Matthews Band was one of the first concerts I ever went to as a kid. I’ve seen him about a dozen times since then, but not in the last three years. The last time I saw Dave before the set at 10KLF, was the first time Umphrey’s McGee opened for him at Alpine Valley. I couldn’t have been more excited to see him with new material and a new line-up.

The show started off strong with “Shake Me Like A Monkey,” one of my favorites off the new album. It was a great way to show off the newly formed horns section of Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin. From there I began to notice how much more this band likes to jam now that they have a lead guitarist and a more full sounding horn section. “Seek Up” included a ten minutes plus jam before Dave even started to sing. The Hue @ 10klf

thehuetenk The Hue @ 10klf @AndyShore There isn’t really a good way to sugar coat having to compete with Dave Matthews Band at a festival. To the Hue’s credit, they remained positive. They knew not everybody in attendance at 10klf was a DMB fan. They put in the grunt work, passing out samplers and promoting their set. When I made my way up to the Saloon after shooting DMB, there was already a small crowd gathered. Read the rest of this entry »

Umphrey’s McGee @ 10klf

Posted by shore On July - 27 - 2009

umphreysmcgeetenk Umphreys McGee @ 10klf @AndyShore Having just seen two Umphrey’s McGee late night shows at Rothbury, I was very disappointed that they were playing an early evening set at 10klf. Jeff Waful is masterful with that light rig, and I was bummed that he would not be given the opportunity to use it. However, I always look forward to an Umphrey’s show, no matter the circumstances. After catching the last few songs of Ozomatli’s set, I met up with the rest of our crew to find our spot for Umphrey’s and Dave Matthews Band and prepare for the awesome night of music ahead. Widespread Panic @ 10klf night 2

Posted by shore On July - 27 - 2009

widespreadpanictenktwo Widespread Panic @ 10klf night 2 @AndyShore In an attempt to bring in the festival crowd early, 10klf booked Widespread Panic to kick off Wednesday night. The crowd wasn’t packed, and Widespread seemed to be saving themselves for their headlining slot on Friday night. As I walked into the concert bowl to get ready to shoot Widespread, I could see that it was already more crowded that it was at the peak on Wednesday night. I was already having a better time than Wednesday by the time JoJo Hermann took over on vocal duties two songs in for “One Armed Steve.” I must have looked like a total fan boy singing along to every word as I happily snapped pictures from the pit. My Dear Disco @ 10klf

Posted by shore On July - 24 - 2009

mydeardiscotenk My Dear Disco @ 10klf @Rob_Shore I wasn’t sure what the late night situation would be after Wilco, with Atmosphere and two other bands I had never heard of. I had heard a lot of good things about My Dear Disco, so I figured I’d check them out. They were running pretty late at the Saloon and the crowd at Atmosphere looked like fun, so we decided to check it out. As soon as we got to a good spot in the crowd it started to pour. Without even stopping to look at the stage, we booked it back to the Saloon just in time to see My Dear Disco start their set. Read the rest of this entry »

Wilco @ 10klf

Posted by shore On July - 24 - 2009

wilcotenk Wilco @ 10klf @AndyShore I have never been the biggest of Wilco fans. Once in a blue moon I will put on one of their albums, and usually don’t make it all the way through. The closest I had ever gotten to seeing them live was a Jeff Tweedy solo acoustic set at the Kids stage at Lollapalooza 2008. That being the case, Wilco was actually one of the bands I was most looking forward to at 10klf. Especially since Zack had some rave reviews about their set at Bonnaroo earlier this summer. Widespread Panic @ 10klf Night 1

Posted by shore On July - 24 - 2009

widespreadpanicnightone Widespread Panic @ 10klf Night 1 @Rob_Shore This is the first year that 10klf has acts on the main stage on Wednesday night. Widespread Panic played the first of their two headlining shows to a pretty sparse crowd on opening night. It’s not too surprising considering the long travel days involved with getting to Detroit Lakes, MN. I didn’t have too much energy myself after driving all night to get here and only squeezing in about a two hour nap. Read the rest of this entry »

Kinetix Take The Next Step @ 10klf

Posted by shore On July - 24 - 2009

kinetixtenk Kinetix Take The Next Step @ 10klf @AndyShore Last year, after tearing the roof off the Saloon stage with a monster set, a 10klf official jumped onstage and screamed that they needed to get Kinetix on a bigger stage. True to their word, Kinetix was bumped up to the Barn stage for 10klf 2009. They were set to take the stage Wednesday, opening night, immediately following Widespread Panic. As Kinetix made their way onto the stage, a roar erupted. The hill on the Barn stage was full of people eagerly awaiting their rock show. Read the rest of this entry »
